  • Global certification of wheel rims | Dhwheel.com Mar 07, 2022
Whether it is the original wheelrim or the modified wheelrim, it has quietly undergone very severe tests, mainly including three "levels" including impact test, bending fatigue test and radial fatigue test. All clearances can be put into production and sales. Therefore, the inspection of the wheel rim is a very serious and life-threatening link. So, how do you know if the wheel is qualified or not? There is a certification body! Let's take a look at the mainstream wheel certifications in the world. German TÜV: is the abbreviation of the German "Technical Supervision Association" and is also an official certification body designated by the German government. This is a certification body recognized by many major countries around the world. And because Germany has unlimited speed highways, the country has higher requirements for wheel certification. Extended information: You may see a lot of TÜV institutions, explain, they are all true. Including three different companies, TÜV Rheinland, TÜV SÜD and TÜV NORD. The certificates of the three companies are similar, and their validity is the same in the EU. In China, these three are in a competitive relationship. U.S. DOT: Abbreviation for the U.S. Department of Transportation. According to the FMVSS standard of the National Highway Safety Administration under the U.S. Department of Transportation, in order to ensure driving safety, automobile wheels sold in the U.S. market must pass DOT certification, and the corresponding certification marks must be printed on the products. The competent authority for "DOT certification" is NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), which is responsible for developing and enforcing relevant regulations and overseeing vehicle safety and compliance assessments. Japan VIA/JWL: Both usually appear at the same time. Note: VIA is not a certification standard, but an agency, short for Japan Vehicle Inspection Association. JWL means light alloy wheels in Japan. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of the country has stipulated the quality/performance standards of light alloy wheels , and those that meet the requirements will be marked with the JWL logo. VIA/JWL are engraved on the wheel together, indicating that the brand wheel has passed the certification of the VIA agency using the JWL standard. In addition, there are SFI in the United States, EMARK in the European Union, KC in South Korea, CMVR in India, ESMA in the United Arab Emirates, INMETRO in Brazil and CHAS in Argentina, etc. It can be seen that as long as the country pays sufficient attention to traffic safety, there will be a corresponding access mechanism for auto parts.
  • How to tell if a wheel is forged or cast? Nov 08, 2021
The more beautiful the aluminum wheels are, the thinner the spokes are, and the more mysterious the technology is. In the market, high-end cars are generally equipped with novel patterns, and the spokes are simple and delicate, which is very dazzling. Is this the trend? Trend and fashion are pushing the spokes of aluminum alloy wheels to become thinner and more mysterious. What kind of technology can push forward? What kind of limit can "mysterious" reach? 1. What is the ultimate production process for aluminum alloy wheels? There are two production processes for aluminum alloy wheels, one is casting and the other is forging. Compared with the forged rim, the metallographic structure of the former is broken grain and forged structure, and the latter is dendritic grain and as-cast structure. In terms of single mechanical performance indicators, the general increase of forging is 30% - 50%, and the individual indicators are several times higher. In the international market, the price of forged wheels can be twice as high as that of cast wheels. There is no suspense about the production technology limit of aluminum alloy wheels, it can only be forged. 2. How many production processes are there for forged wheels? One is "solid forging". For truck aluminum wheels with simple structure, we can produce them by solid forging process. The second is "casting first and then forging". For more and more exquisite car and motorcycle wheels, it is difficult to produce a single solid forging. This requires the use of "casting first and then forging", first using traditional processes such as low-pressure casting, gravity casting, metal mold casting and other processes to produce basic shapes of blanks, and then changing to a forging machine for precision forging. Most of the wheels with very complex structure and beautiful appearance can be produced by this process. The third is "continuous casting and forging". The "continuous casting and forging" process can produce forged wheels with more complex structure and more exquisite patterns than "first casting and then forging". The comprehensive mechanical performance is one grade higher than that of the cast rim, and the spokes will be more concise and finer, and more beautiful like fairy bones. 3. Status of "Continuous Casting and Forging" Process and Equipment of Aluminum Alloy Wheels "Continuous Casting and Forging" process also has many manifestations. For the special production of blanks with a specific structure, a special machine can be developed. The most advanced aluminum alloy wheel "continuous casting and forging" equipment is born out of the "extrusion die-casting die forging machine", and is made into a special machine according to the characteristics of the wheel. This kind of aluminum alloy wheel "continuous casting and forging" special machine, the name can be called "opposite three forging pressure low pressure casting liquid die forging wheel rim machine". The equipment is equipped with three large-tonnage die forging cylinders. After the low-pressure filling of the wheel rim blank casting is completed, the forced die forging is directly performed, and the "rim", "spoke" and "rim" of the wheel rim are independently forged. Make the rim blank reach the grain of the forged structure. The mechanical strength is increased by more than 20%, the impact resistance is increased by 200%-500%, and the surface finish of the wheel rim can reach the highest level of 7-8, which is comparable to the mirror reflection effect produced by machining. 4. Continuous casting and continuous forging of magnesium alloy forging wheels The production equipment for magnesium alloy forging wheels is the same as the production equipment for aluminum alloy forging wheels. The only difference is that the smelting and pouring of magnesium alloy soup needs to be protected. The forging process is the same for both. To cast the aluminum ring, a sand mold is first created by casting sand. The hollow part of the mold is what we hope to look like after casting. Then heat the aluminum material to its melting point, so the aluminum becomes a liquid, and then pour the metal liquid into the sand mold and wait for it to cool down. At this time, open the mold and you can see a formed aluminum alloy rim. As for forging the aluminum ring, it is also necessary to make a mold first. The difference is that this mold must be made of sturdy steel instead of cast sand. Because during forging, the aluminum material does not reach the liquid state, but the temperature is raised until the aluminum material becomes soft. At this time, the material is put into the steel mold, and then continuously punched with great force, the aluminum material in the mold is completely It is extruded into the shape reserved by the mold, and the forged aluminum alloy rim is formed at this time. Regardless of whether it is a forged or cast product, it needs to be mechanically processed when it is taken out of the mold, such as removing burrs, trimming the appearance, baking paint, etc., to complete the finished rim. From the perspective of molds, forging molds are much more expensive than casting molds, and it is more difficult to open molds; from the perspective of construction methods, casting is easy to mass-produce, and forging is just a manufacturing process, not as simple as casting, so the price is also expensive. . During the forging process, the material undergoes continuous stamping. After forming, its structure will become very compact and solid, and can withstand high stress. That is to say, if the car runs over the road pothole, the cast aluminum ring may be deformed. However, the forged aluminum ring may be safe and sound. Secondly, because the forged aluminum ring has a compact structure and can withstand high stress, in terms of shape design, it can design a relatively lively thin spoke, and there is no need to worry about the bearing capacity is not strong enough. When the size is the same, it can also be lighter than the cast wheel frame, which can improve the "loaded mass/unloaded mass ratio" of the whole vehicle, and the handling performance of the car can be improved without other adjustments or changes. Good performance cars, without exception, all use forged aluminum rims.
  • Does the rim need to be replaced if it is bumped? Mar 22, 2022
When the vehicle is driving on a daily basis, the tires and wheels cannot avoid being bumped. Since most of the wheel rims are made of aluminum alloy, if the vehicle is driving at a high speed, the wheel rim may be damaged by the stones on the road, resulting in a small piece of the wheel rim being dented. The material of aluminum alloy is relatively brittle, and the recessed position may be damaged. If it is forced to return to its original state, it may cause the rim to rupture. Although some wheels are dented to the point that they can be restored to their original positions and can be used normally, car owners should go to a 4s shop or repair shop to check them carefully, and do not restore them by themselves. A hole in the rim does not necessarily need to be replaced, mainly depends on the location and condition of the damaged rim. If the side of the rim is knocked into a hole, it does not need to be replaced in this case. If there is a pit where the rim meets the tire wall, and the pit is serious, it needs to be replaced. Because the tire and the sidewall will be affected by this pit, it may cause the tire pressure to decrease, which is a safety hazard.
  • Why Performance Cars Use Big Wheel Rims? Mar 14, 2022
    1. For beauty: Supercars and performance cars look better than regular cars. The so-called face value is not only the body line, but also the cool big wheels. Wheels that are too small will look petty. 2. For braking performance: The brake discs and calipers of performance cars are larger than those of ordinary cars. So, even if you don't consider the small wheel rim to be unsightly, the smaller space on the inside can't hold so much stuff! The larger hollows between the rim banners are more conducive to the heat dissipation of the braking system. 3. For maneuverability: This is also the core point. Larger wheels, the starting point is to "hold up" large tires with low aspect ratios. These tires have large diameters, low heights, and wide treads. With the tires installed, the outermost rim of the rim is closer to the ground (less tire rubber is between the rim and the ground). Therefore, when accelerating, braking, and especially turning, the tire deformation is smaller, and you can feel an excellent road feel (the feeling that the wheel transmits from the road to the hand). At the same time, the large wheels of supercars and performance cars are generally lighter, which greatly reduces the unsprung weight (the total weight of a series of swing arms, tires, wheels, tie rods, etc. below the shock absorber is a performance indicator). Therefore, these points add up, and the handling of the vehicle can be better played.

The alloys used to make these wheels is made from a combination of different metals like aluminum, magnesium, which make it more flexible and strong. These alloys are made after umpteen complex processes. This unique manufacturing process is the reason behind their durability and ability to absorb the pressures associated with a driving vehicle. You will learn by asking any auto expert that forged alloy wheels are stronger and lighter than the cast alloy wheels, even though they would cost you a fraction more than the cast ones. If you want to give a new look to your car, just get a set of Forged Alloy Car wheels .
  • What is the et value of the wheel rim? Mar 22, 2022
Zero-offset rim - indicates the mounting hole fixing surface of therim, which is located on the centerline of the rim. (for SUV models and some BMW cars) Positive offset rim - indicates the distance between the joint surface of the rim and the center of the rim, which is the direction to the outside. (for front-wheel drive and some rear-wheel drive models) Negatively offset rim - indicates the distance between the joint surface of the wheel rim and the center of the rim, in the direction of the inside. The ET value of the rim refers to the degree of deviation between the junction of the rim and the center line of the rim, referred to as the offset (off-set value), which is divided into three types: positive offset, negative offset and zero offset. . If the ET value is larger, the rim will be more recessed inward (the wheel spacing between the two coaxial rims will become smaller), rather than protruding. The smaller the ET value, the more protruding it is to the outside (the wheel spacing between the two coaxial rims becomes larger).
  • Is it necessary to repair the scratches of the brushed wheel rim? Apr 08, 2022
It is necessary to repair the scratches of the brushed wheel rim. As an integral part of the car tire, the wheel rim is very important to support the car and deeply affects the driving safety of the car owner. If the brushed wheel is scratched, the most obvious thing is that it will affect the beauty of the whole car. If the owner does not pay attention to this aspect, it is not necessary to repair it. If the brushed wheel rim is seriously scratched, it must be repaired if it causes wear on the wheel rim. The alloy part of the brushed wheel rim is worn, which will affect the safety of the car owner. When the brushed wheel rim is slightly scratched, you can use sandpaper to polish the scratches to the same color as the original. If the scratched area is relatively large, you can use a special sticker for the wheel rim to stick it. If the scratches are serious, it is recommended that the car owner go to the 4s shop or repair shop to have professional personnel use a wire drawing machine to repair or replace the new wheel.
  • Monoblock, 2 Piece, and 3 Piece Wheels - What's the Difference? Mar 31, 2022
In the wheel industry, forged wheels are regarded as being the premium rim type as they offer a number of performance, styling, and strength benefits. There are three main variants of custom forged wheels: monoblock wheel rim, 2 piece wheel rim and 3 piece wheel rim. The manufacturing process for different forged wheels is very similar. All these three types of custom forged wheels begin as blocks of pure aerospace-grade T6-6061 aluminum. The blocks of aluminum are placed inside a forging machine where it is compressed under colossal amounts of pressure to create the shape of a rim, or piece of a wheel. The intense pressure creates a dense grain structure without any microscopic imperfections, giving the wheel an incredibly high strength. This strong composition allows for manufactures to use less metal than other rim types, lending to a lighter overall weight. Different from 2 piece wheel rim and 3 piece forged wheels, monoblock wheels are the lightest of any custom forged wheels due to their single piece construction and forged aluminum makeup. The low weight helps to reduce weight at the wheel hub of a vehicle, thus leading to faster acceleration, greater lateral grip, quicker braking, and improved fuel economy. Their forged construction also makes them durable and reliable, which is why they are often used for performance cars and at autocross, track, and racing events. 2 piece wheel rim , 3 piece wheels : their complexconstruction does allow for a wide variety of widths, color combinations, finishes, and offsets to be used to create a truly perfect fitment.
  • Wheel Adapter Apr 15, 2022
Wheel adapters are usually found in the situations which require a fitting to help to put a wheel on a vehicle. Dating back to the very beginning, the wide bolt pattern has made impossible decorative rims. As a result, this fitting are designed to bring in many benefits. Generally speaking, the materials such as the aluminum or steel are available for manufacturing of this necessary industrial fitting for most automobiles. And in order to meet the various specifications, there is a great variety for practical use. For example, the most common type is the one designed like a heavy and flat disk. It can be attached tightly by the pre-drilling studs and others to the onside holes. When the wheel is not normally required to be placed on a vehicle, it is wise to take the wheel adapter for help. The corn parts of this fitting are the two bolt patterns. The one is used to attach the vehicle's hub and the other is used to protrude from the adapter. As the space has been left, the new required wheel can match the vehicle conveniently and perfectly. The wheel adapter is able to excellently combine the vehicle and the wheel together by the aid of the special countersunk lug bolts and nuts. People would wonder the safety caused by the employment of the wheel adapter. Actually, it is safe seriously under the related specifications. If the weight and size limits or other things can be totally under control, it is beneficial by adopting the wheel adapter. But there is something which needs our attentions. As this fitting is designed primarily for decorative retrofitting of aftermarket wheel, it is unwise to put it for the use of heavy hauling or hard cornering. Otherwise, unpleasant situations would occur, even some accidents. In conclusion, the selection on the specific type should be taken seriously according the specific requirements.
  • Can the out-of-roundness wheel rim be repaired? Apr 08, 2022
Aluminum alloy material is not only lighter than iron, but also harder than iron, so it is perfect for wheel rims. But aluminum alloy is metal after all. High school physics knowledge tells us that metal has ductility, so aluminum alloy wheels will also be out of round. In addition, the high hardness of aluminum alloy makes it difficult to repair by hammering, so it can only be repaired by turning. Turning the wheel rim will make the wheel rim thinner, unable to withstand strong impact, and it is easy to break when encountering potholes, which is a safety hazard. There is a relatively mature technology for repairing the out-of-roundness of aluminum alloy tires in foreign countries. They use heating to put the wheel back into the mold to restore it, but at present, it is known that such technology has not been introduced in China. Therefore, whether it is an iron wheel or an aluminum alloy wheel , if it is out of round, it is not recommended to repair it, because there will still be safety hazards after repair.
  • Casting Wheels and 3-piece Forged Wheels Apr 28, 2022
In the wheel industry, there are two main types of wheels: 3 piece forged andcasting. There are many advantages to each type as well as disadvantages. The main difference betweenthem is the manufacturing processes used to create them. In the forging process, 3 piece wheels begin as high-quality T6-6061 aluminum alloy billets. The billets are then subjected to intense pressure to form the shape of a wheel. Due to the great amounts of pressure, tiny imperfections, holes, and cracks that can form during manufacturing are eliminated, creating a dense grain structure. The process of manufacturing a forged wheel also uses less metal to achieve a desired strength, thus reducing weight, which can improve overall vehicle performance. A forged 3 piece wheel also uses a number of different parts. The wheel is made up of a center, outer barrel, and inner barrel. Both the inner and outer barrens are sealed together and then fasted with the face by a number of bolts. This construction allows for manufacturers to provide different wheel widths and offsets. Casting wheels use a different manufacturing process than forged wheels. There are two types ofcasting: gravity and negative pressure. In gravitycasting, molten alloy is poured into a mold in the shape of a wheel where it then cools. With negative pressurecasting a vacuum sucks the molten material into a mold, reducing the number of air pockets in the wheel. Bothcasting processes are both less expensive and quicker than forging. However, casting wheels are not without their faults. Tiny imperfections can still remain in the wheel after it cools which can lead to cracking, quality, and reliability issues. The process also requires more material be used to achieve a given strength, thereforecasting wheels are usually heavier than forged 3 piece wheels. Forged 3 piece wheels offer owners up to a 35 percent reduction in weight over similarcasting wheels due to their construction. While forged wheels may be more expensive thancasting, the high-strength and quality properties ensure that a forged 3 piece wheel will be more reliable and durable.
  • Forging processes for 6061 aluminum-alloy wheels Apr 15, 2022
The metal forming processes of aluminum-alloy wheel forging at elevated temperatures are analyzed by the finite element method. A coupled thermo-mechanical model for the analysis of plastic deformation and heat transfer is adapted in the finite element formulation. In order to consider the strain-rate effects on material properties and the flow stress dependence on temperatures, the rigid visco-plasticity is applied to the simulation. Several process conditions were applied to the simulation such as punch speed, rim thickness, and the depth of die cavity. Experiment for a simplified small-scale model is carried out and compared with the simulation in terms of forging load to verify the validity of the formulation adapted in this study. Then, various processes with full-scale model for a 6061 aluminum-alloy wheel are simulated. Material flow, pressure distributions exerted on the die wall, temperature distributions and forging loads are summarized as basic data for process design and selection of a proper press equipment. All of our wheel rims are forged using 1000T forging machine. The production process of forged wheel rim: aluminum bar 6061,forging,blank treartment, light blank, molding, dynamic balance test, polishing, finishing treatment, checking and testing, packing.
